As I begin this year as President of J/CSSPAT, I would like to thank Dr. Sherri Lang for her exemplary leadership over the past two years. I also extend my gratitude to each member of the organization’s Board of Directors for their dedication to the Association and for all we have achieved during the past years. Also, I thank the membership for your trailblazing service over the years. It is my honor to serve as President of this Association and to work with such a dedicated and supportive group of student development leaders.
J/CCSPAT has been an encouraging and constant part of my higher education life since I first became a member. Before I was elected President, I made a commitment to do everything I could to advance the mission of J/CCSPAT. The last several years, community college student development staff has been experiencing financial restraints on professional development. This is a challenge that our organization must be willing to face with commitment. Nevertheless, I have hope because there are committed professionals within and outside this organization willing to work diligently in order to move J/CCSPAT and student development forward.
I am very excited about the things in store for J/CCSPAT this year. I would like to continue to build on the vision and energy of past presidents. We will continue to focus on building our membership, advocating for our professional status in the community college setting, funding undergraduate and graduate students with scholarships for their academic future, rewarding qualified researchers for work completed in the field and continuing to provide outstanding student development services on our respective campuses.
I thank you all for this opportunity to serve as your president and look forward to a new beginning of success.
