President's Message
Greetings everyone! I hope the semester is going well for each of you. For those of you who were unable to attend the conference in Tyler last year, you missed a treat. What a beautiful location, and the hospitality was incredible! Dr. Vickie Geisel and our Colleagues from Tyler Junior College, Kilgore College, and Trinity Valley College did an outstanding job. I don’t ever think I’ve been as impressed with a conference program (printed product as well as sessions) as I was with this conference. Dr. Morris Paschall got things started by sharing his beautiful vocal ability with us, and the learning and fun never ended. Who knew that Tyler had such a beautiful and fascinating winery! Thanks to Vickie and her group for such a wonderful experience.
For those of you who may not be aware, the J/CCSPAT Board of Directors is comprised of 20 members who volunteer their time and service to the organization. These individuals have worked tirelessly to ensure that the organization continues to thrive and promote the ideals of student services. They have upheld our financial solvency by making sound monetary choices, and they are to be commended.
During my time as president, the organization has continued to thrive and support the purpose of student affairs. Our commitment to provide scholarships for worthy students interested in the field continues. Gabriel Ramirez and Gloria Jimenez are our latest recipients of monetary scholarships. Unfortunately, last year we did not receive any research applicants, so we were unable to award the Darrell Truitt Research Award. However, the Board will continue to seek and reward qualified research.
As I prepare to relinquish my position as your president, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing me to serve you. My special thanks to the members of the Board. You are a great group of people to work with; I appreciate your dedication to this organization. It has indeed been a pleasure to work with people of such fine character and dedication. I feel richer for having the chance to work, learn, and grow with you. J/CCSPAT is truly one of the best organizations that I have been fortunate enough to be affiliated with, and I will never forget this experience. I will continue to be a part of this organization and promise to do whatever I can to promote it. Thank you again for the opportunity to serve as your president.
Dr. Sherrie Lang
